This article explains how to use the Ability Drive® programming tester. Power-wheelchair programming should only be done by an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP).

Video of How to Use the Programming Tester

The Ability Drive® programming tester allows ATPs to test power wheelchair programming without the use of an ADT or eye-gaze device..

To program the power wheelchair, please visit the support for ATPs section of our website, find the appropriate wheelchair Programming Guide, and write it to the chair.

Next, connect the 9-pin cable to your chair’s input module, where you have setup a profile for Ability Drive. Connect the other end of the 9-pin cable to the tester.

When the chair is powered on, the LED on the tester will be illuminated.

You’re now ready to test the programming of your Ability Drive profile. Using the buttons on the tester, you can drive the power wheelchair in all four directions and use the mode button to access seat functions.
